Where to Eat in Porto Portugal

One of the top highlights of our trip to Porto was the food. Rodrigo and I both went to Porto with very little knowledge of Portuguese food beforehand. I did a bit of research on different dishes to keep an eye on, but we were really hoping to get insider tips (as we usually do) from our Airbnb host. We found the following restaurants through a variety of sources: Elsa—our helpful Airbnb host, Google Maps reviews, and other travel publications and articles. 1. Café Santiago Café Santigao is probably the most touristy restaurant on this list, but I think it’s important to include it because it gives you a solid…

    Greetings from Mexico

Another belated post of vacation photos. Rodrigo and I traveled to Mexico this past May to celebrate his birthday. We visited 4 cities in 8 days. It was a jam-packed schedule but we still managed to find time to relax at the beach. I have a ton of pictures from Frida Kahlo’s home in Mexico City. I couldn’t resist taking pictures of the beautiful blue walls and the lush gardens. Oaxaca was also a super fun city to photograph. I loved the bustling marketplace. My biggest goal was to use two rolls of film in a short amount of time. I was just shy of that, but I’m very happy…

    Llamas and Snow

Two weekends ago, I left my Leica point-and-shoot film camera on the IKEA Ferry on the way to Red Hook. It took me four hours (basically on the way back to Manhattan) to realize it was even missing. Rodrigo said I had acted like it was “the end of the world”. I was more upset over the lost film than the actual camera itself (even though the camera also had sentimental value). I don’t care if I have to spend $100 for another camera exactly like it, but I didn’t know if I was ever going to get a chance to go to Machu Picchu again! Needless to say, I…

    Snippets from 2015

Sad but true: this one roll of black and white film spans from February through October 2015. One of my goals this past trip in Peru was to take a lot of photos on film. When I usually get my film developed, I go through photographer’s remorse when I realize how little I’ve captured. Unfortunately, this still happened during my most recent trip in early October. I swear I took more photos, but I guess it all ended up in my iPhone instead. Part two of Peru is coming up… as soon as I finish my roll of film.   California, February 2015 Berkeley   San Francisco   Santa Cruz…

    Recoleta Cemetery, Buenos Aires

More than one year later, I finally got my black & white film from Argentina developed. This post complements my Buenos Aires: Week 3 post. I had alternated taking photos on my digital camera and my Leica point-and-shoot that day. I’m super happy with how my shots on film came out. Usually, after a trip, I get upset that I didn’t take more pictures on film… But by the way these photos turned out, I’m really happy that I was choosy with each shot. I think there were only a few shots in this roll  that I didn’t like.
